Rowan King is a Cairns lawyer, and Far North Queensland is where his practice is anchored. RK Law operates across Cairns, Caloundra and Rockhampton, but Cairns is currently home.

His career began where the law is hardest to reach. Rowan started out with the Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service, working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in remote Queensland, and has undertaken formal training in culturally appropriate and trauma-informed practice. He has also served as a Police Prosecutor  (an unusual grounding for a defence lawyer), and one that means he understands exactly how a case is built before he sets about testing it.

Since 2017 he has led RK Law as Principal.

Rowan practises in Criminal Defence, Domestic Violence and Family Law, appearing in contested hearings, trials, sentences, bail applications and appeals across metropolitan, regional and remote Queensland courts. He has acted for thousands of clients, in matters ranging from Legal Aid and community-based work to appeals reported in the Queensland Court of Appeal. His central vision is a simple one: to give his clients hope. People come to him at the worst point in their lives, and his job is to turn something frightening and complicated into a clear plan and a path forward.

That commitment extends beyond Australia. Rowan has undertaken voluntary work in Papua New Guinea supporting communities affected by domestic violence, and sits on the management committee of the iCare4U Village at Gereka, which provides shelter, rehabilitation and support services for women and children escaping violence and marginalisation. It is work done without a fee and without a courtroom, and it has sharpened his view of what access to justice actually requires.

Closer to home, Rowan is a proud sponsor of the Cairns Taipans. Backing the Snakes is about more than basketball, it’s about investing in an organisation that gives young people in the Far North something to belong to. He also speaks regularly at universities, high schools and professional conferences on domestic violence, trauma-informed advocacy and access to justice, including the James Cook University Law Seminar Series.

Rugby has shaped him for just as long. Having played at various levels and remained an avid supporter of the local union and league community, Rowan credits the game with teamwork, discipline and resilience — and with the understanding that preparation and strategy beat brute force nearly every time.

Beyond the courtroom and the pitch, Rowan’s most cherished role is being a father to his daughter. Whether it’s her choir performances, exploring Australia together, or a Disney movie at the end of a long week, those moments are the reminder of what actually matters.

Rebecca is a Sunshine Coast local, but with wide international experience in legal matters. Her passion for the innocent and helpless has driven her career far and wide, assisting with anti-trafficking, conflict and arms resolutions and international equity and diversity issues. Closer to home, as well as building a great reputation as a defence solicitor and expert in family law, Rebecca is also an Accredited Mediator – and is an Australian Army Cadet Officer.

Aryan joined RK Law in 2026 and works across our criminal, domestic violence and family law matters as a Law Graduate. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and is completing his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice through the College of Law, with a Master of Laws to follow once admitted as a lawyer in Late 26 / Early 2027.

He came to the firm with several years in Far North Queensland criminal practices, working as a legal clerk and in legal administration roles with some of our competitors. During his studies he received the Kerry Cullinane QC Law Scholarship and the Cullinane Commendation Award, and served as Vice President of Inter Alia, the James Cook University law students’ society.

Aryan describes his approach as thorough, methodical and efficient. What keeps him in this area of law is the work itself.  He loves helping ordinary people through some of the hardest days of their lives, and the relief they feel when a matter is finally behind them.

He is a student member of the Queensland Law Society and a member of the Far North Queensland Law Association. Outside the office he plays golf, builds Lego and reads when time allows.

Skye is often the first person you’ll speak to at our Cairns office, and she takes that responsibility seriously. She joined RK Law in 2026 after more than a decade in the corporate sector, including six years as an account manager with News Corp Australia and two and a half years managing volunteers for the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.

She works primarily alongside our criminal and family law teams, where clients are frequently dealing with the hardest period of their lives. Skye’s approach is a friendly and personable one, and she makes a point of ensuring every client feels valued and heard.

Skye moved to Far North Queensland from Adelaide at 18 and has called the Cairns region home ever since.

Sachi is the first voice most people hear when they contact RK Law, and she’s the reason a first call to the firm feels straightforward rather than daunting.

She came to us from several years in fast-paced customer service, most recently as a cashier team leader at the Caloundra RSL, where she trained new staff and looked after a busy floor. That background shows in the way she works, because she’s calm when things are hectic, organised as a matter of habit, and unfailingly courteous.

Sachi has taken quickly to legal administration and is keen to keep building on it.
